PRIs and A way ahead

NSW organized a workshop in collaboration with Janam Foundation on “PRIs and A way head”.  Different kinds of delegates, including Sarpanches participated  in the meeting. As per the discussion, some Sarpanches were imprisoned due to corruption and some were suspended for non-performance. The discussion show how the bureaucracy is dominating the elected representatives.

The corruption of Sarpanches is just a tip of the iceberg and an extension of the corruption by the bureaucracy. Perhaps the suspended Sarpanches might be those, who do not want involve themselves in the corrupt practices. In the meeting Citizens' Report on Governance was released. Dr. Bhaskara Roa presented the gist of the Report and the Decentralization chapter in detailed, including the Bihar context.
