The Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (keep your promisses Campaign) is not an organisation, not an open meeting place , but a campaign of the citizens for reminding Governments towards the promises made by them and make them accountable.
History of the organization
During the World Social Forum in Mumbai , on January 2004, the civil society organizations realize the necessity of making the government and international organisms to fulfill their promises.
At that moment we decide to make a campaign under the name of “Wada Na Todo Abhiyan”, (keep your promises) which main objective shall be to keep track on the National Development Goals and Common Minimum Programme. This campaign will be also monitoring the Millennium Development Goals, which adds a component of international solidarity to the whole campaign.
At the beginning we made estate consultations in order to know the main issues affecting the different regions in India, as well as the attitude of people and grass-root NGO's towards the campaign. A important result of the consultation were the awareness of the promises made directly to the people by the government, these will be also included and as a result of that, there will be more people aided. The estate consultations culminated with a National Assembly on November the 4 and 5th, 2004. During the assembly we decide the general strategy which will allow as reaching our main objective: make poverty history.
